According to Quest Diagnostics, a major drug testing lab, more employees are testing positive for marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamines. They just released an annual analysis of over 10 million workplace drug tests. They found that the rates of positive results are the highest in 12 years.

It showed that 4.2 percent of drug tests came back positive last year, up from 4 percent the year before and the highest rate since 2004, when it was 4.5 percent. In addition, after over two decades of decline, the rate of positive results has been climbing since 2012.

Drug Use Trends

The positive rate in urine tests for cocaine rose for the fourth straight year, and marijuana positivity has increased nearly 75 percent from 2013 to 2016. Quest also noted that positive amphetamine tests rose more than 8 percent in both the general United States and safety-sensitive workforces compared with 2015.  Methamphetamine positivity actually decreased between 2005 and 2008. Then it remained steady until 2012, when it began to rise again.
